BP Corporate Video Blog

The challenge

To create a short, self-shot “day in the life” corporate video production that authentically documented a bp business partner’s site visits to three operations in the United States: a wind farm in Kansas, a technology campus in Naperville, and the Whiting oil refinery and communicated valuable learnings from the trip. The video needed to break the mould of traditional internal communications, using UGC video capture techniques while ensuring a professional, high-quality finish.

Client: bp
Event Type: UGC Video Capture
Location: Kansas (Wind Farm), Naperville (Technology Campus), Whiting (Oil Refinery)

Objective

bp tasked wtv. with producing an engaging corporate video demonstrating the value of a business partner's on-the-ground site visits. The brief required capturing three key themes, safety, excellence, and innovation, while showing the scale and complexity of bp’s operations. The video needed to feel human, relatable, and authentic, avoiding corporate jargon, while overcoming the usual challenges of UGC video capture, such as maintaining image and audio quality during remote video capture in multiple locations.

Our Solution

To meet these objectives, wtv. utilised CREWSTUDIO, a proprietary smart video app designed to elevate remote video capture quality via smartphone. CREWSTUDIO provided in-camera tools such as a spirit-level guide for stable shots and an audio monitor for clear sound. A customised filming task list within the app guided the bp business partner through exactly what to film, when, and where, ensuring the right footage was captured in the right style. This approach blended the authenticity of UGC video capture with the polish expected from professional corporate video production while maintaining editorial control over content.

Outcomes

Delivered the main “Diary of a Business Partner” film with broadcast-quality UGC content.
Produced supplementary Instagram-ready cuts focusing on specific themes like wind power and emerging technology.
Far exceeded distribution expectations: originally for BP’s Yammer, later featured on bp’s intranet, LinkedIn (41K views), and Instagram (2,400 and 2,700 views).
Won Gold for Best Corporate Blog Content at Communicate’s Corporate Content Awards (2019).
