Global Education Summit

THE GLOBAL EDUCATION SUMMIT

Background

GPE brings together lower-income countries, donors, international organizations, civil society, including youth and teacher organizations, the private sector and private foundations to transform education systems so that all girls and boys, especially those who are marginalized by poverty, displacement or disability, can receive a quality education.

In July 2021, the GES (Global Education Summit for GPE) set a target of raising at least $5 billion over the next five years to transform education for millions of the world’s most vulnerable children. A fully funded GPE would enable up to 175 million children to learn and help get 88 million more girls and boys in school by 2025.

Challenge

The global health environment provided numerous challenges for in-person attendance of key global stakeholders.

Many were unable to travel, and there were strict restrictions on in person numbers.

And whilst these challenges created complications for registration, they also provided opportunities to open virtual attendance to wider stakeholder attendees and to many previously unheard voices.

The voices of educators and children themselves from around the world.

Strategy

The event strategy created an environment that would welcome as many voices as could be heard through the Summit itself and in a series of side events hosted before, during and after the summit.

These events would all become hybrid. A mix of in-person and remote attendees gathered in separate locations locally, communicating globally.

wtv. facilitated this strategy with partners through event production, bespoke registration, content creation, live streaming and platform deployment.

The Summit Solution

On the afternoon of Wednesday 28 July, 4 streams (90 minutes each) of pre recorded thematic content were played out live via EVENTSTUDIO. A bespoke portal build hosting indexed & on demand content.

An 8 hour live show (Thursday 29 July) with English and French live interpretation, streamed on 5 different social media platforms in addition to the wtv. EVENTSTUDIO platform. Two additional interpreted languages were also available for the in-person audience of 300 VIP audience of diplomats, leading business men and women and heads of state, via personal headsets (Spanish and Arabic). The live show content was also available to on demand following the live show.

Hosted by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and President Kenyatta of Kenya, the live show included 49 on stage presenters, 15 live remote contributions, +40 pre-recorded video statements and the London Gospel Choir.

Production was delivered (with technical partners) onsite with the programme mixed from the venue. 6 cameras and sound feeding into an Outside Broadcast truck stationed outside the venue. A second truck contained 15 OS laptops and the matrix switcher to enable remote presenter participation. The remaining crew were stationed back of house and behind the audience in the auditorium.

A bespoke registration (SHARESTUDIO) was built to support the high-profile guest list of virtual and in-person attendees.

wtv.’s EVENTSTUDIO platform consisting of 20 virtual rooms including a lobby, live auditorium, thematics’ stages, help desk, media room, enabling live chat, and broadcast messages.

Two language version available to attendees - English and French.
