The Global Fund

Background

  • The Global Fund is a partnership designed to accelerate the end of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria as epidemics. As an international organization, the Global Fund mobilizes and invests more than US$4 billion a year to support programs run by local experts in more than 100 countries. In partnership with governments, civil society, technical agencies, the private sector and people affected by the diseases, we are challenging barriers and embracing innovation.
  • The Preparatory Meeting was held as a global virtual event that set the groundwork for the Global Fund’s Seventh Replenishment, launching the Investment Case which lays out how we plan to fight for what counts and protect everyone, everywhere from the deadliest infectious diseases and build a healthier, more equitable world.
  • Co-hosted by five eminent African Heads of State - Rwanda, South Africa, Kenya, DRC and Senegal. VIPs included the Presidents of five host countries, Executive Director of The Global Fund, Director General of the WHO, Ministers of State, CEOs of global charities.

Challenge

  • The main challenge involved hosting this Preparatory Event as a virtual meeting to 460 invited delegates, 30 scheduled speakers, spontaneous interventions and up to 20 delegates who would take the floor during the two-day event.

Strategy

  • This event required a platform solution to handle registration and participation, as well as multiple location studios to act as the core sources of event activities for speakers and round table discussions.
  • wtv. facilitated this strategy with partners through event production, bespoke registration, content creation, live streaming and platform deployment.

The Event Production

  • wtv.’s EVENTSTUDIO platform was used to host and run the event. The event was streamed through EVENTSTUDIO and Yammer.
  • wtv. established a main hub in the UK, with live presentations from studios in Geneva and New York. A panel discussion was held in Geneva on Day Two (up to six presenters), whilst New York hosted two moderators across the two days.
  • Over 30 speakers joined via multiple Zoom Meetings across the two days (we also had spontaneous interventions), using 20 Outside Source (OS) feeds.
  • Up to 20 delegates spoke at short notice and were managed and pinned to screen by the Webcast Producers.
  • To increase participation, wtv. integrated both SnapBar and Walls.io into the platform. Walls.io showed feeds from Global Fund’s Twitter and Instagram accounts as well as three specific hashtags.

Feedback

“The Global Fund team wanted to warmly thank you for your support and hard work to get the Preparatory Meeting of the Global Fund’s Seventh Replenishment off the ground.

The event was a big success and we have received so much positive feedback and response for both the design and functionality of the platform as well as the seamless production of the two day event.

A big thank you to you all, and all those behind the scene, for your professionalism, flexibility and most importantly your patience with all our last minute changes and requests

It was an absolute pleasure working with the WTV team and we look forward to our next project with you.”
